...poking fun at how American cinema glamorizes violence so much. Even though the film mentioned in the strip features brutal, very unglamorous, violence, it still won an Academy Award. Frankly, the story was crap. It was just the brutality that made it so resonant with Academy voters. Poor Billy is brutally violent all the time and makes much better points about society than that movie did, but does he get any awards? NOPE.
